Opportunity One-on-One Tutoring
Description This is a chance for you to work one-on-one with a refugee learning English.  Trainee skill levels vary . . . some individuals may still be learning the alphabet and others need help on polishing their interview skills.

Commitment Minimum 1 hour per week for a 4-week period.

Special Requirements CCG will connect individuals, but coordination of meeting location, date and time must be agreed upon and handled by the volunteer and trainee.
CCG Responsibility
  • Train volunteer on basics of tutoring.
  • Facilitate the initial meeting of the volunteer and trainee.

Opportunity STIR Culinary Training
Description STIR Culinary Training provides refugee trainees with the language and skills required to obtain, perform and retain entry-levelfood services jobs. Volunteers are needed to help teach students kitchen vocabulary and practice English.

Opportunity Workplace Readiness English Training
Description Workplace readiness is an intensive care vocational English class.  This class is for low-level English speakers who need help in improving the administrative skills required for an entry-level job, such as:
  • Providing personal information
  • Understanding employer expectations
  • Understanding time & the basics of time management
  • Practicing interviewing skills

Description Introduction to Food is a companion training program to Workplace Readiness (Workplace Readiness is a pre-requisite to this program). In this class trainees begin hands-on experiential trainingin agriculture and low-level culinary tasks.

Opportunity Farm Work
Description This is an opportunity to dig your hands in the dirt and return to nature. We need help with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and a host of other activities.

Date/Time Farm Hours:  Tuesday – Friday 9am – 3pm
Age 18+ years, or accompanied by a legal guardian.
Special Requirements Bring your own water, gloves, sunscreen and a hat for sun protection.  CCG gardening tools are limited, so you may want to bring your own hoe.

Opportunity Sunday Farm Stand
Description This is an opportunity to help us sell veggies. As a Sunday Farm Stand volunteer, you will help harvest produce, setup and take down the farm stand, and help sell veggies and other CCG products. It is a great time to interact with the community and help us raise funds to train more people.

Opportunity Wonderful Wednesday Drivers
Description The Cathedral of the Rockies generously provides us with kitchen space to do our culinary training. In return, our culinary classes help with the Cathedral’s Wonderful Wednesday night dinner. Students prepare, serve and cleanup the meal. Public transportation stops running at 6pm and many of our students don’t have a car. We need volunteers willing to help drive students home after the dinner each week. Come join us for an excellent dinner and make a new American friend who has recently resettled to Boise!

Opportunity Basic Office Work
Description Creating Common Good requires a lot of paperwork . . . unfortunately keeping that paperwork organized is hard to do. We need help keeping our office streamlined and clean so we can focus on other important tasks.
